Mokena Fireworks Show Rescheduled For The Fall
Expect a Halloween-themed fireworks display in Mokena months after the original show went off in a hurry.

MOKENA, IL - Residents of Mokena and nearby communities will have a chance to re-live the Fourth of July this year as the fireworks show that quickly went off during a holiday thunderstorm has officially been rescheduled. Village officials have set the date for the 2018 Mokena Fireworks Show for Saturday, Oct. 13.
The village confirmed the date last week with Melrose Pyrotechnics, the producer of the show. The original show set on the Fourth of July went off in minutes as severe storms reached Chicago's south suburbs.
After the original show, village officials said they were in the process of confirming and coordinating details about the possibility of rescheduling that same show for later in the week, but just before 9 p.m. while those details were being ironed out, the fireworks company's pyrotechnic specialist made the decision to discharge all the fireworks rapidly.

"This discretionary decision was predicated on significant safety risks associated with instability and volatility of the fireworks mortars and supporting structures inundated by heavy amounts of standing water," the village wrote in a statement at the time.
The rescheduled show will be centered in Mokena Main Park, where the Mokena Community Park District's annual Halloween Hallow event will take shape that same day.

"There will be a distinctly ghoulish flavor to the show," according to a village announcement sent last Friday.
That flavor will include a musical score for the fireworks tied to the weekend’s Halloween theme.
"Weather permitting, viewers can expect a show similar in size and duration to the one originally planned last month," according to the village.
