Mokena Park District Welcomes New Executive Director

MOKENA, IL — The Mokena Community Park District will welcome new Executive Director Greg Vitale on May 14. Vitale comes to the Mokena Park District from Munster, Indiana, where he served as director of parks and recreation.

“We think Greg will bring a significant amount of experience and enthusiasm to Mokena Park District," board president Jeff Apel said in a release. "He will continue to guide the park district with the level of service and activities that have made us one of the top park districts in the area.”

According to the park district, Vitale has a bachelor's degree in recreation and sports management, a master’s degree of public administration and has been in the parks and recreation field for 20 years.

Vitale has also previously worked at the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District and the Addison Park District.

“I was attracted to Mokena because of the wide array of programs, events and facilities," Vitale said in a release. "As a former program supervisor and manager of multiple parks and facilities, I wanted to join an agency where I can jump in and help make a difference in all areas."

The outgoing Executive Director, Mike Selep was at Mokena Park District for the past three and a half years and will be moving on to another position in the parks and recreation field, the park district said.

“I am going to truly miss the staff, residents and relationships that I have formed in the community," Selep said in a release. "I am confident that Greg will work with everyone to accomplish great things for the District. He brings a wealth of experience and can-do attitude.”
