Mokena Police Department Hiring Lateral Officers

MOKENA, IL — The Mokena Police Department is accepting applications for lateral police officer hires.

The department is looking to add experienced officers to its current team of 36 sworn officers, with opportunities in all facets of law enforcement including: patrol, investigations, traffic, K9, and crime prevention. In addition, our officers are assigned to the Mobile Field Force and Will County Major Crimes

Minimum Qualifications

• Current, full-time sworn officers of a regular police department in any Illinois municipality, county, university or State law enforcement agency provided they are certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and have been with their respective law enforcement agency within the State for at least two (2) years from the date of last hire at that agency.
• Must be at least 23 years old.
• United States Citizen or Legal Resident of the United States.
• Education – Associate's Degree or 60 credit hours towards a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university (waived if military requirements met).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Be able to successfully pass a psychological screening, medical and drug test, and extensive personal interview and background examinations.
• Must have no felony convictions and possess good moral character.
• Establish residency within 35-mile radius of the police station by the end of the probationary period.

Applicants who meet these minimum qualifications and are selected for lateral appointment will complete the entry process before receiving an offer of employment.

That process includes:

• Oral interview by the Police Chief/Command Staff
• Comprehensive Background Investigation
• Polygraph Examination
• 2nd Oral Interview by Commission/Chief
• Psychological Examination
• Physical/Medical Examination
• Drug Screening
