MOKENA, IL — The Mokena Police Department is hiring lateral officers, with testing for immediate hires and for an eligibility list for future openings.
The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Mokena is now accepting applications for the position of lateral police officer.
Salaries range from $73,851 to $92, 241, based on the number of years as a certified police officer. Salary after seven years is $106,034, with pay topping out at $109,240.

The application deadline is Wednesday, April 24, at 4 p.m. Applications will be available online until 2 p.m. on April 24. There is a $25 non-refundable application fee. Applications can be found online.
Please note applications are NOT available at the Mokena Police Department or Village Hall.

Some things to know
- Residency with a 35-mile radius of the police station required.
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of application;
- Must have proof of high school diploma, GED certificate or high school proficiency statement:
- The minimum educational requirement may be waived if one or more of the following applies:
- The applicant is a Veteran and has served 24 months of honorable active duty in the United States Armed Forces and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable, OR
- The applicant has served for 180 days of active duty in the United States Armed Forces in combat duty, recognized by the Department of Defense and has not been discharged dishonorably or under any circumstances other than honorable.
- The minimum educational requirement may be waived if one or more of the following applies:
- Must be, or previously have been, full-time sworn officers of a regular police department in any Illinois municipality, county, university or State law enforcement agency provided they are certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board and have been with their respective law enforcement agency, as a full-time police officer, within the State for at least two (2) years from date of last hire at that agency.
- You must have no felony convictions and possess good moral character suitable to the role of a law enforcement officer.
Lateral entry candidates who are determined to have met the requirements will not be required to attend an orientation or take a written examination.
For such candidates, the examination process consists of:
- oral interviews
- background investigation
- polygraph
- psychological
- medical examination
