Mokena Police Receive Complaint About Teens Wearing Blackface
The juveniles were identified by police, and were not charged or disciplined.
MOKENA, IL — Mokena Police received a complaint regarding three teenagers in blackface at a gas station. The complaint was about three teens who had their faces painted black at Speedway at Front and Wolf at 3:15 p.m. May 4, police said.
The juveniles were identified by police, and were not charged or disciplined. Police said there was nothing criminal in nature, and the juveniles told police they had pore cleansing black facial masks on and went to get a slushie at the gas station.
Lincoln-Way District 210 said, "On Saturday, the Lincoln-Way 210 School Resource Officer was in contact with the Mokena Police Department. Any questions regarding the alleged incident should be directed to the police." The district had no additional comment.

The complaint in Mokena comes a week after nearly 1,000 Homewood-Flossmoor High School students walked out of the school protesting a blackface controversy involving several students.
