Mokena Residents Host Fish Fry Benefiting Northern Illinois Food Bank

Kay Ruane Hohn and Glenn Daugherity care deeply about their community and solving hunger in Northern Illinois. On Saturday, May 27th, the couple hosted an annual Memorial Day fish fry for friends and family at their Mokena home. The gathering was planned with a purpose in mind - to help raise awareness about Northern Illinois Food Bank’s strategic plan to end hunger.

Approximately 60 attendees were treated to fish caught, prepared and cooked by the local couple.

Hohn and Daugherity are longtime supporters of Northern Illinois Food Bank since 2017. Hohn, a member of the Food Bank’s UNITE Campaign Committee – an initiative that strives to make sure neighbors can get the food they want equitably, when they need it and Daugherity, a regular Food Bank volunteer shared their passion for the Food Bank with their guests.

Jen Lamplough, Chief Impact Officer, Northern Illinois Food Bank and Gina Gramarosso, Senior Director of Philanthropy, Northern Illinois Food Bank shared information about the Food Bank’s Strategic Plan with guests. “Solving hunger is a community wide effort. Last year, with the help of 127 area network and feeding sites, Northern Illinois Food Bank served 11.8 million meals to residents in Will County. Together, we can ensure our neighbors in Northern Illinois have the food they need to thrive,” said Gramarosso.

Generous attendees donated to Northern Illinois Food Bank, thanks to a matching gift by the hosts. Many are first-time supporters and learned about ways in which they can help and get involved.
