Mokena Teen Will Rock the Stage at Hopstring Fest Saturday

John Narcissi, 17, a Providence Catholic High School senior, says he’s been immersed in music at home since he was a baby.

On Saturday, he’ll show how much music has been a part of his life with a performance at Hopstring Fest at Silver Cross Field in Joliet. Narcissi will play from 1:40 to 2 p.m. on the Deschutes Brewery Stage.

Tickets for the 12-hour celebration of live music, food and craft beer are $20 and available through hopstringfest.com.

The Mokena teen discovered guitar at Axes Music in Mokena, writes Ted Slowik, a local journalist and musician who’s profiling the acts at Hopstring Fest on his blog Blues Musings.

“The owner Clyde put a guitar in my hand and I said, ‘This is me,’” John says.

He plays violin, cello, bagpipes and other instruments and was a finalist in the 2011 and 2012 Rialto Idol Jr. singing competition.

Last year, Narcissi performed at the legendary Blue Bird Cafe in Nashville, TN, Narcissi was the last to perform on the old Breidert Green stage in Frankfort, torn down in 2013, and the first to perform on the new one.
