NAWS Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Coconut

Coconut is a 6-year-old male cat who was rescued from a local animal control where he was at risk for euthanasia.

MOKENA, IL — Since NAWS Humane Society of Illinois in Mokena had to close to the public in March, it has been in danger of closing permanently. The society has been able to continue adopting cats and dogs, and many of the animals are also with foster families.

NAWS had created a GoFundMe in March in an effort to raise funds, and over $20,000 was raised.
"Due to the overwhelming outpouring of love and support from the community, NAWS was able to get through March and April with a GoFundMe Campaign," Founder Stacy Gaskins told Patch.

The society has now secured a loan that will get the society through mid-June, Gaskins said, adding the society will then see how the crisis situation looks at that time.

Coconut loves attention, enjoys being pet and is very friendly, curious and outgoing. He does need to be the only pet in a home as he is not fond of other cats or dogs, the society said.

You can email Delonda at delonda@nawsus.org with any questions or if you would like to meet Coconut.
