New 5K Race Planned In Mokena

The "Chi-Town Showdown 5K" will raise money for a Mokena Park Foundation scholarship at Main Park in May.

MOKENA, IL - A new 5K race, the "Chi-Town Showdown 5K," is planned for Saturday, May 12 in Mokena. The morning race will begin and end at Main Park, according to a news release from the Mokena Park District. A portion of the money raised from the event will benefit the Mokena Park Foundation’s new Showdown Scholarship.

The Showdown Scholarship will go to a child in the community to fund their participation in a Park District athletic program or an affiliate athletic program.

Here are a few things to know about the race in case you are interested in registering:

  • 5K run and walk will begin at 8 a.m.
  • A kids dash will be at 9 a.m.
  • Main Park is located at 10925 W. La Porte Road in Mokena
  • Free parking will be available
  • USATF-certified course
  • Transponder-timed run
  • Kids dash followed by refreshments, entertainment and an awards ceremony
  • Split times and markers and water stations will be along the course.
  • Pre-race warm-up
