Noonan Academy Standout Student of the Week

Mayra Akkawi is a Kindergartener at Noonan Elementary Academy in Mokena and has been selected by her teacher, Miss Pratt, as this week's Standout Student. Congratulations Mayra and to the Akkawi family.

What is one essential you must have when studying?
A quiet room so I can focus

What do you like to do when not in school or studying?
I like to play with my brother, read stories, bake with my mom, dance, ride my bike, and plant with my dad

What is your dream job?|
I want to be a doctor

What are some of your most played songs on your iPod?
My favorite song is “Let it Go”

What is one thing people don't know about you?
I like to help people like starving children. I also love chanting.

Whom do you look up to and why?
I look up to my mom because she is always there for me. She teaches me how to pray, be strong and positive. She also teaches me how to read, do projects and experiments and how to bake.

What do you keep under your bed?
I keep a small prayer book with Virgin Mary’s icon and a Rosary to protect me under my bed.

Who is your favorite teacher and why?|
My favorite teacher is Miss Mary Beth (Miss Pratt) because she helps me read

What is your favorite class and why?
My favorite class is PE because I like to jump and play with my friends

What's one thing that stands out about your school?
My school, Noonan Academy, stands for a strong teaching curriculum, extracurricular activities, and strong faith in God

What extracurricular(s) do you wish your school had?
I wish that the school had swimming and baking classes

What's your morning routine?
I wake up at 6:30 in the morning, brush my teeth, put on my uniform, have breakfast, and go to school with my brother. We always say a prayer on our way to school.

If you could change one thing about school what would it be?
I love everything about Noonan Academy, but I wish it had shorter hours, until like 2pm

What's your favorite thing to eat in the cafeteria?
My favorite thing to eat is Mac and Cheese

What's your best memory from school?
My best memory from school is the Christmas recital and having friends who like to help and share.
