Noonan Academy Students Complete Yearlong Service Project
Noonan Academy students completed a service project to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities
Students at Noonan Academy completed a yearlong service project on December 18, 2020 to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities, proving that they "can" do it!
The entire school came together with a goal of collecting one million can tabs in twelve months. Though they fell short of their ultimate goal, they did collect over 122,952 can tabs, which is the approximate equivalent of covering one night for a family at Ronald McDonald House.
The service project was spearheaded by former Noonan student, Colin Hearns, supported by Noonan's Holy Family Association, the parent teacher organization at the school, and was turned into a school-wide service project. Mokena business CTO Enterprise, LincolnWay Community Bank, and Diamond Financial Services, Inc. assisted in collecting can tabs for Noonan Academy as well.

"It is important for our students to understand that they can do good with small, focused initiatives. This specific service project allows every student to participate. Even one can tab dropped in a homeroom collection jug can go towards our larger goal of one million can tabs. Every can tab counts! In the end, an amazing organization will benefit from our efforts," said Mrs. Mueller, Holy Family Association Everyday Earnings Committee Chair.
"Our students did an absolutely amazing job. We have a number of Noonan Families who have benefited from Ronald McDonald House Charities, which I believe added to the success of this project. It was an honor to bring our contribution to United Scrap, which is a certified recycler for RMHC, so that it can benefit others," said Mrs. Kush, who assisted Mrs. Mueller is running this service project.
