Noonan Academy Welcomes Back Students

Noonan Academy welcomes back students for the 2020/2021 school year

Noonan Elementary Academy officially started the 2020/2021 school year on Monday, August 17th welcoming students eager to learn back into its buildings.

Noonan has been able to adapt to CDC guidelines in addition to ISBE and IDPH mandates with little interruption because their buildings, which were specifically designed to eliminate bullying, were built for this. They have no hallways, common areas, or cafeteria, and each classroom is equipped with it's own restroom, classroom sink, and cubby/locker set up. "Our insistence of having a smaller class sizes, really to benefit the student as a whole, has also assisted in implementing protocols that have been set forth," said Mr. Joseph Dunn, Principal.

Noonan is not only offering in-person instruction but has allowed families to opt for e-learning and hybrid options as well. "The e-learning platform that we are utilizing has received high praises by the parents of students currently utilizing it, which is roughly 10% of our total student population," said Dunn. "The first day of utilizing anything on a mass scale is bound to have some glitches, which we did have very early in the morning on our first day. We were able to resolve all of those issues before lunch. The only real hiccup we encountered this first week was our Priest didn't show up for Mass on Friday. We encouraged all of our teachers to adapt, and they did so beautifully! Students recited the Rosary, talked about their homeroom Saints, and prayed together during that time while I spoke with any parents who chose to participate in our Mass via Zoom. Taking it all one day at a time really is the key at this point."
