Noonan Elementary Academy, an independent Catholic school in Mokena, will be kicking off National Catholic Schools Week (January 31-February 6) by hosting its annual Open House for perspective families to come and see what Noonan has to offer them on Sunday, January 31, 2016. Known locally for its Classic Curriculum that includes Latin and Spanish; Noonan is also proud of their test scores, which are significantly above National norms, and its professional Speech and Drama programs.
National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. The theme this year is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.” Throughout the week special events will occur at Noonan that will focus on the value that Catholic education provides to its students, which also impacts our church, our communities and our nation.
To focus on the theme of “In Our Communities”, Noonan will be presenting a Living Rosary. To focus on the theme of “In Our Students”, Noonan will be hosting an all school “Bee” day where students will compete academically in each class. To focus on the theme of “In Our Nation”, Noonan students will participate in a pep rally. To focus on the theme of “In Our Vocations”, Noonan will host a vocation day where priests and other members of the religious community will speak to students, and Mass will be held for all Noonan families.
The Noonan Student Council will be running two service projects throughout the week. One will be a “Penny War”, where the homeroom with the most pennies collected will receive a pizza party. All the money collected will be combined with other Student Council run service projects throughout the school year and a charity will be chosen to receive the total amount collected at the end of the school year. Additionally, the Student Council is collecting items to benefit a local homeless shelter.
