The pedestrian—identified at this time only as an area man approximately 79 years of age—was not near a crossing when struck, according to Metra Media Relations Manager Meg Thomas-Reile, so it was not immediately known what time he was hit.
Metra train no. 407 departed the Mokena station at 9:40 a.m. Police arrived at the scene at 10:01 a.m., Thomas-Reile said. Police activity was spotted in Hickory Creek Preserve.

Service was interrupted for just more than an hour, Thomas-Reile said. At 11 a.m., Metra repositioned an outbound train to that track, then transferred the 13 passengers on train no. 407 to resume service to Joliet, Thomas-Reile said.
The man's car was found parked nearby, Thomas-Reile said.
