McDermed Hosting Workshop to Help with Citizenship Application

Citizenship workshop scheduled for Saturday July 14th at the New Lenox Library

New Lenox, IL…If you or someone you know has been thinking about becoming a citizen of the United States, State Representative Margo McDermed (R-Mokena) is hosting a workshop to help with the application. The workshop is being held in conjunction with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and its partners. Volunteers from various organizations will be on hand to help assist applicants in completing the necessary forms and documents.

“Becoming a US Citizen is a huge honor and I know it is the culmination of a lot of hard work for immigrants and their families. We want to help make the process easier for them.” Rep. McDermed said.

The workshop will be held at the New Lenox Public Library on Saturday, July 14th beginning at 10:00 a.m. and running until everyone has been helped. To be eligible for citizenship you must be a legal permanent resident of the United States for at least 5 years, or if married to a U.S. citizen, for 3 years. Applicants are advised to bring required documents with them to the workshop. These items are listed at Representative McDermed’s website or on the flier located at a number of local businesses and organizations.
