I-80 Upgrade At New Lenox Begins

Several politicians, including Gov. Bruce Rauner, gathered to mark the occasion.

NEW LENOX, IL - Several New Lenox and Will County politicians gathered with Governor Bruce Rauner on Wednesday to mark the start of a $47 million major upgrade to the Route 30 interchange along Interstate 80. The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2021, according to New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann, who is a big proponent of the project. He said the rebuilt interchange at the Maple Road exit will include the installation of dual turn lanes at the exit and entrances here in New Lenox.

Virtually all of the construction work will be paid for by state and federal money, he said.

"It's a huge deal for New Lenox and we're gratified the work is getting done," Baldermann said.

He said the project will also expand I-80 to three lanes to around Gougar Road.

He said the village is thankful to the state and to the Will County representatives for their role in making this project happen.
