St. John's United Church of Christ will be sponsoring a community wide blood drive to help patients in our local hospitals on Sunday, March 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Heartland’s mobile coach in the parking lot. Please sign up to donate blood at St. John's United Church of Christ by calling the church at (708)479-5123 or sign up online at www.heartlandbc.org.
For someone in a hospital bed, a blood transfusion can be more welcome than a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. When hospital patients receive blood transfusions, it’s usually a matter of life-or-death. Cancer patients and patients with blood disorders receive blood products regularly as part of their treatment plan.
Every day, Heartland Blood Centers sees first-hand how blood transfusions will save the life of a pre-mature infant, a 7-year-old undergoing treatment for cancer, or a 67-year-old mother and grandmother with sickle-cell anemia. Sometimes, sadly, a blood transfusion is not enough to save a life, but it can give a loved-one another week, another month or another year to spend with their families.
