'Stroller Strides' Fitness Classes Offered To Lincoln-Way Moms

FIT4MOM classes in Mokena offer childcare while moms work out.

MOKENA, IL -- Moms in the Lincoln-Way area will continue to have the opportunity to work out while caring for their young children after a Lemont woman took ownership of the FIT4MOM "Stroller Strides" series that's been popular in the region for three years last month. Michelle Marinello says classes will continue at Green Meadows Park in Mokena until the indoor season begins on Nov. 1 at Ivy League in Mokena.

Outdoor workouts involve moms pushing the kids in strollers while instructors lead them in exercises.

"They run or walk around the park and stop at locations and do additional cardio moves, strength training with resistance bands and core conditioning," said Marinello, who also operates similar classes in Lemont. "There are about 5 stations with 3-5 minute bursts of cardio in between. While moms workout, instructors entertain kids with books, bubbles and singing. Instructors also have moms do exercises that include the kids, for example, planking in front of the kids and giving them high fives, blast off sit-ups or peek-a-boo 180 jumps."

Moms who have attended the classes over the past three years love Stroller Strides because "they can bring their kids to work out," Marinello said.

"Moms are multi-taskers by trade," she said. "We workout, bond with our kids, build connections with other moms and take care of ourselves. Its a win-win."
