Adult Summer Photo Safaris

For: Adults who want to learn more about the art and science of photography AND bring their photography to the next level through storytelling with their camera. Additional trips may be added if response warrants it!

all eight sessions (instruction and shooting trips) - $120 per person

ONLY instruction OR ONLY trips - four weeks - $80 per person

any instruction-trip combo – two weeks - $40 per person.

transportation and parking costs and incidental costs associated with trips is NOT included. Car pooling will definitely be coordinated.

A fully manual DSLR camera is recommended for the instruction, but many students have used a “fancier” point and shoot as well. Laptop or tablet recommended. Please make sure to invest in a compatible adaptor that allows you to download your images from your card to your laptop or tablet.

Class 1 | Tuesday, June 30 7-8:30PM at studio | Instruction Beyond Auto

Bring your camera and manual (if available) to class. We will talk about the settings and language of the digital camera. How to use semi-manual, and full manual modes. Making sense of exposures, light and composition.

Class 2 | Thursday, June 2 5PM-8PM | SAFARI! Lisle, IL Eyes to the Skies Hot Air Balloon Festival

Hands-on instruction and group shooting at the 33rd annual hot air balloon festival in Lisle, IL, where we practice concepts learned in first class. Entrance to Festival is $9.49 (incl. service fee) and can be purchased online at eyestotheskies.com

Class 3 | Thursday, July 16 5 7-8:30PM at studio | Instruction – Exposure & Aperture

Bring hot air balloon festival images to class for a friendly critique, as well as your laptop or tablet. Learn how move images from the camera to your digital device. Learn how the use of aperture and shutter speed affects your exposure and compositions.

Class 4 | Sunday, July 19 10AM – 12PM | SAFARI! Chinatown Summer Fair

We will leave Mokena on the Metra, change trains to CTA Red Line by Sox Park, and then arrive at Chinatown for their annual summer fair. Filled with color and activity, there will be no shortage of photo opportunities at Chicago’s Chinatown. Free to attend, more info at chicagochinatown.org

Class 5 | Thursday, July 23 7-8:30PM at studio | Instruction – Editing your Images for Effect

Evaluate images from the Chinatown Summer Fair. Discuss shutter speeds and how to show movement and stop movement in your images. How does shutter speed affect your exposure and compositions?

Class 6 | Sunday, July 26 4-6PM | SAFARI! – Chicago’s Summerdance in Grant Park

Meet in Chicago’s Grant Park to experience and photograph the weekly Summerdance Program, where people gather for dance lessons and open dancing. Perfect chance to practice the use of manual shutter speeds for

Class 7 | Sunday, August 9 10AM-12PM | SAFARI! – Chicago’s Botanic Garden Kite Festival

Though we might be there for the kites, you don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to explore and photograph the grounds at the Botanic Garden! Perfect for anyone who loves flowers, and a great chance to practice the art of macrophotography along with more compositional technique!

Class 8 | Tuesday, August 11 7-9PM at studio | Instruction – More Editing your Images for Effect and Organizing your Obssession.

Bring images from both Summerdance and the Kite Festival for a final critique and more editing tips with your laptop or tablet. Organizational hints for your photography obsession. Celebrate a successful summer! BYOB – I’ll have the snacks and pop to share.
