Water Rate Increase In Mokena Begins July 1
The average Mokena household will see an increase of 72 cents per month on their water bills.

MOKENA, IL - Trustees in Mokena have enacted a slight raise in the village water rate. A $0.09/1,000 gallons adjustment in the 2019 fiscal year was agreed to by the village board at its most recent meeting, according to a village news release. As a result, the village's water rate is scheduled to increase from $7.38/1,000 gallons to $7.47/1,000 gallons on July 1. This difference will be noticeable on the bills residents receive in August.
The numbers come to an average of 72 cents per month for the average Mokena household using 8,000 gallons of water a month.
According to the village, the rate is made up of a City of Chicago rate for treating and delivering water to Oak Lawn, an Oak Lawn rate for delivering water to Mokena and four other "downstream" communities, a Tinley Park rate for delivering water to Mokena and New Lenox and a local community rate for delivering water directly to Mokena residents and businesses.
