Yankees Pick Up L-W East Grad Enns in MLB Draft

Dietrich Enns, a junior at Central Michigan University from Frankfort, was selected by the New York Yankees in this week's Major League Baseball draft. Now, he must choose between signing with the club or returning for his senior year.

Frankfort's Dietrich Enns better hope he likes navy blue pinstripes because he could be wearing them for a while in the near future.

The grad was drafted by the New York Yankees in this week's Major League Baseball draft. Enns, a junior at Central Michigan University, was picked in the 19th round, 607th overall.

“It feels great, definitely an exciting time,” Enns told Central Michigan Life, an online publication covering the university. “I was sitting in my pool just relaxing when I found out and, needless to say, I was pretty excited.”

A left-handed pitcher, Enns has become a versatile member of CMU's staff in his three years on the team, working out of the bullpen as a closer and finding his way into the starting rotation this season, according to Central Michigan Life. In his first start this season, he threw a complete game shutout and went on to post a 2-0 record as a starter with a 0.89 ERA. Overall for the season, Enns went 4-2 with a 2.34 ERA.

Being drafted by the Yankees as a junior means Enns needs to decide whether to sign with the team or return to CMU for his senior year, finish school and enter the 2013 draft, with the possibility of being selected higher, according the Central Michigan Life.

Enns' College Stats

Freshman Year: Went 7-0 with a 2.12 ERA in 20 games as a starter and relief pitcher, according to College Baseball Daily. He held batters to .168 average and had 64 strikeouts. Named Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year as well as a Louisville Slugger All-American, and earned first-team All-MAC honors.

Sophomore Year: Spent the entire season working out of the bullpen, going 6-1 in 19 appearances. He led the team with six saves and had a 2.83 ERA, striking out 48.

Senior Year: Overall, went 4-2 with a 2.34 ERA working out of the bullpen and rotation. As a starter, he was 2-0 with a 0.89 ERA.
