The week's biggest news from the Mokena Patch Facebook page is that we finally passed 500 fans! Congrats to all and special thanks to fan 500, Michelle Langlois Obrochta, who now probably totally regrets doing that.

One reader this week used the Facebook page and the site to say how proud she was of her daughter for

Kirsten Lundh Peterson As I commented on the Patch site, my daughter will be doing this on March 23 at Atrium Point/Gattos. Very proud of her for doing this. She is braver at 9-yrs old then I am as an adult.

Another reader found out from our weekly home sale round-up that the home in his neighborhood he thought would never sell sold.

Chris Hedges Are you kidding me? That's great! That home had been vacant for a long time, and the +$400K selling price is good news to us that live in that neighborhood. Hope the new owner saved some money to fix the yard - that prison fence has to go!

Linda Bergman Fox This land belongs to the Park District for the use by ALL of the residents. If they wish to practice and play on these fields they need to sign the agreement - PERIOD.

Chris Hedges Linda, they may be the park districts' fields, but these organizations have poured many volunteer hours and dollars into the upkeep and improvements of these fields.

Voices Speak Out on Mokena Patch

I'll just tell you now, the most-commented-upon stories of the week by a country mile were the stories about the ongoing discussions over Burros field rentals.

There are tons of comments. Angry ones, sad ones, accusing ones, confusing ones, hopeful ones and a lot picking sides in this dispute. Here are two I feel strike a good balance.

I had no idea this was all political. Here I thought we'd be able to sign my son up on a team that had no restrictions to play some football. After reading all of this 1) I don't want to be looked at as a "side picker", seeing we aren't one of those sports families and 2) the influences these people will have on my son. Seriously, why does everything have to be so political?

I wish this much passion and outcry could be put towards all the problems with the Mokena schools. Yes, this is a shame all around, but there are worse things happening to our kids academically!
