Aurora Man Charged with Murder for Allegedly Shooting Man in Head

Derrick Page was shot in the head during a September party in Aurora.

Murder charges have been filed against an Aurora man that shot and killed a 23-year-old Plainfield man in September, according to a release from the Aurora Police Department

Marquitte L. West, 22, of the 1000 block of Woodview Court in Aurora, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder after he allegedly shot Derrick Page, of the 2200 block of Covington Lane in Plainfield, during a party on Aurora’s Neat West Side.

Page was shot at around 12:45 a.m. Sept. 5 near Lake Street and Illinois Avenue. Page was attending a party being thrown in a rental hall on the 600 block of North Lake Street.

Shortly before Page was shot, a disturbance erupted outside the party causing the attendees to run out of the building toward Illinois Avenue and across Lake Street. A fight broke out on the east side of Lake and at least one shot was fired which struck Page in the head. Page was shot as he was coming to the aid of a friend who was involved in the altercation, police said.

The charges were authorized by the Kane County State’s Attorney in early October and an arrest warrant was issued for West on Oct. 14. However, West had fled to Virginia so the charges were sealed until he could be brought back to Illinois. He is currently being held in the Will County jail on unrelated charges.

Page succumbed to his injuries Sept. 6 at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove where he was airlifted after receiving initial treatment at an Aurora hospital.
