Moving everything to the Web, maybe?
Recently I was shocked to learn that while some documents are posted regularly to the Village Web site others are simply left off. I asked our Village Staff why items like our proposed 2013/2014 Budget and Financial Records were not posted, I got OOPS we thought they were. This got me thinking that while every effort is being made to move to the Web some trusted groups and companies just don’t get it. If you’re going to put up the website and then ask people to use it then do it right. I mean if you built it to communicate and then miss one of the single most important documents, well maybe it’s time for someone to really get to the root problem. The root of the problem is, either do it right or take it down. You see folks you can’t do it half way, can you? As a person running for Trustee this election season these types of miss steps in providing Transparent Government just make me and others crazy!
When the Village moved to the new Web site it was to allow everything needed to be in one place, a sort of front counter without the need of staff intervention and that wait in line. We can pay bills on the site, we can lookup local village codes and we can even direct email to all Department Heads, Trustees and the Village President, but critical documents are OOPS forgotten all I can say WRONG!

It is time we hold the staff accountable to what we spend wither it is WEBSITES, phones, more Vehicles or just day to day operations let us make sure we get it right and spend it once, because OOPS doesn’t cut it in my world how about yours?

CAW (Cool Application of Week)
This week I’m directing you to STEVE GIBSON’S site. Steve is like me a super geek and we both have been around the PC world since it started. Steve has a great tool I would like everyone to run from his website called “ShieldsUP!” (You will find it under Services in the menu) http://www.grc.com .
This handy piece of code will tell if your computer and router are open to attack. He also has a great UPnP checker which you should also check. Please remember to be safe on the Net because bad guys love to OOPS your computers!
