State of the Computer and its future - Dull and cloudy

Just nothing happening in computers - darn!

The State of the computers today is stuck in low gear, not moving in design or leaping forward in real technology. The reason is we have hit that sweet spot of cost vs. features for consumers systems. Yes folks the days of huge speedy computers advancing forward maybe over, we have hit the MOORE’S LAW end or near end.

(Moore’s Law – states every two year we will double the transistor count and processor speeds)

The issue is the industry can’t get more into the chip for processing speeds. They can add more cores and integrate graphics (APU) into the chips but that is not adding major speed increases. So the computers of today are stuck and innovations are going to be small hops and not a leap like in the past. The great thing is you can finally spend your dollars and get top stuff and no tomorrow it won’t be eclipsed by something with a huge jump forward.

Does this mean that the Dick Tracy watch is dead and the Star Trek Tricorder is not coming? The answer is NO and new technologies called stacking is under development. Stacking is where the components of today are placed in a layer fashion or multiple layers deep. The issue they face is bleeding of atoms or stray energy from components jumping the layers causing faults in the gates of the transistors. A fault is where a signal changes a one to a zero or reverse causing the whole calculated stream to be off. Now this change may not seem big but it could change a transaction of your money from a CREDIT to a DEBIT which would be bad!

So you see that the future is years out, but tablets will continue to come down in price due mainly to volumes increases. The PC world will pretty much slow and be more of “how much would you like to spend” then big sale pricing of the past. So what I’m saying here is that, things are not going to change much and now I can spend like it’s 1999 – “Go Prince Go”

CAW (Cool Application of Week)

Foxit Reader from Foxit Software is now my only PDF reader I use. I frankly got tired of updates and software bloat from ADOBE. I think like many when you get so big you forget small code is best you paint a target and hackers go after all that spaghetti coded software just to prove you need help at coding.

Remember to VOTE during this election season, because local stuff matters more to your pocket book than national stuff!
