Circuit Clerk Employee Stole Money, Altered Court Records: Prosecutors

A Kane County Circuit Court Clerk employee has been charged with official misconduct for stealing money from the clerk’s office and knowingly altering court records, according to Kane County prosecutors.

Kelli D. Brackett, 39, of the 155 block of Farnsworth Avenue in Aurora, has also been charged with theft, a Class 2 felony; forgery, a Class 3 felony; and tampering with records as a public official, a Class 3 felony, according to a Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office press release.

Authorities allege that between Sept. 1, 2014, and Aug. 31, 2015, Brackett knowingly stole more than $500 that she was responsible for as part of her employment with the Kane County Circuit Court Clerk’s office. A warrant was issued for Brackett’s arrest and she was taken into custody on Friday. She was released after posting 10 percent of her $5,000 bond.

If convicted of the most serious offense, Brackett could be sentenced to probation or between three and seven years in prison.

She is next expected in court on Feb. 5.
