Disney Trip Phone Scam Too Good To Be True

You probably didn't win a free Disney trip.

KENDALL COUNTY, IL — If someone calls you claiming you've won a free Disney trip, don't believe it. The sheriff's office said another phone scam is making the rounds in Kendall County, with victims receiving calls from someone claiming to be from the public defender's office advising them that they won a trip to Disneyland.

Victims also say they've gotten a call from someone claiming to be from Kendall County Health and Human Services requesting personal health care information.

Police said even though the numbers appear to be coming from Kendall County government, scammers use a common tactic called spoofing with software that lets a seemingly legitimate phone number come up on victims' caller ID even though the call isn't really coming from that number.

Police said health and human services does not randomly call individuals to collect personal information from them, and the public defender's office will not call and ask for personal information over the phone.

The Kendall County Sheriff's office said they want to make residents aware of the scam and warn people to never give out personal information over the phone.
