Kifowit Teams up with Attorney General's Office to Protect Area Consumers from Financial Fraud

State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit

AURORA, Ill. – In response to the rising concern of nationwide data breaches, state Representative Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, will host a Data Breaches & Identity Theft Seminar on Thursday, January 15 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Eola Community Center, located at 555 S. Eola Road, Room 103 in Aurora.

“The growing role of technology in our economy has helped simplify our daily lives, but this convenience has come at a price,” Kifowit said. “Now cyber criminals can hack popular businesses and steal thousands of credit card accounts in the matter of minutes, so it is vital consumers know how to counteract this threat.”

Kifowit will be joined by a representative from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office to discuss what steps residents can take to protect themselves from data breaches and identity theft and what to do if your identity is stolen. Consumers may bring recent credit card statements or suspicious solicitations for one-on-one review.
