Long Beach Elementary Students Decorate Literary Pumpkins for Halloween
Literary characters were the stars of the school's Pumpkins on Parade event.

Submitted by Oswego School District:
Long Beach Elementary School families showed their love of reading by decorating pumpkins in such a way that they resembled favorite book characters.
Students and teachers were invited to vote for their favorite picture book and fiction book character. The pumpkins that got the most votes received a gift certificate to the Long Beach Fall Book Fair. This year’s winners were Emmett from the Lego books, Wilbur from Charlotte’s Web and Olaf from Frozen.
Long Beach families were recently invited to attend the event Pumpkins on Parade. Students along with family members returned to school one evening to view all of the pumpkins displayed in the LRC. The imagination and creativity used to decorate the pumpkins was amazing.
This is the third year the Long Beach LRC has hosted the pumpkin decorating event. The number of participants is growing each year along with the details of each character. The Cat in the Hat is always a popular character, but this year, along with all the winners, we had pumpkins decorated as Amelia Bedelia, Laura Ingalls Wilder, the Hungry Caterpillar, and the main characters from Wonder and Out of my Mind.
We hope the event will continue to grow each year. It is a fun way for parents and children to work together on an activity that centers around the love of books.
