After several months of preliminary construction work, Aurora’s Ohio Street Bridge Replacement Project begins in earnest on Monday, March 30, when the structure will close until late 2016.
The estimated $7.8 million dollar project features complete removal of the existing 90-year-old bridge (the oldest in Aurora) which will be replaced with a wider, two-lane structure that will include a sidewalk on the east side of the bridge and a multi-use path for bicycles and pedestrians on the west side. The new structure will also be higher to meet updated BNSF vertical clearance requirements.
