Stedman Graham, Caroline Jones to Visit District 308 Schools

Health and wellness will be at the forefront,as Community Unit School District 308 launches into the 2014-15 school year.

The district is partnering with the Sonima Foundation to host the Sonima Foundation Live Tour next week at Long Beach Elementary, Plank Junior High School and Oswego East High School. The Sonima Foundation is dedicated to support the changes in public policy required to make health and wellness best practices an essential component of the education system.

At the Sonima Foundation Live Tour, singer and songwriter Caroline Jones will perform an inspirational music performance with students to inspire creativity, identity development and growth. As part of the nationwide tour, author and businessman Stedman Graham encourages students to focus on education and positive choices. Graham is also the fiancée of media icon Oprah Winfrey.

Additionally, Stedman Graham will host three sessions with community members, district staff and parents on how to prepare students to a path towards success and to be community leaders.

Sonima fosters self-awareness in students by providing them the opportunity to explore through various creative and musical mediums. The organization works to improve the breadth of students’ musical and literary capabilities through singing, songwriting, creative writing and instrument playing.

School District 308 will host a Sonima Live event on Aug. 27 at Long Beach Elementary School, Aug. 28 at Oswego East High School (OEHS), and Aug. 29 at Plank Junior High School. The OEHS event will also be available to students at Oswego High School.

Each event will include a concert from notable singer/songwriter Caroline Jones and a presentation with esteemed author and businessman Stedman Graham.

Graham will host the leadership talks for parents, staff and community leaders from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 at Long Beach, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 28 at Oswego East High School, and from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Aug. 29 at Plank Junior High School. The community is welcome to attend the leadership talks hosted by Graham.
