Montgomery, IL – The Village of Montgomery’s quest for continuous improvement and growth is apparent with the new hiring of several key employees. The most recent is Olenka Wrobel, who recently relocated to take on her new role as Planner for the Village of Montgomery from Oregon. Wrobel graduated last month from the University of Oregon with her master’s degree in Community & Regional Planning. “I was drawn to Montgomery because I was seeking a smaller community where I could make a meaningful impact. I am excited to work on the Village’s development projects and aid the community in this time of growth,” says Wrobel.

Wrobel originally hails from Phoenix. She previously worked in business management consulting and business operations after obtaining her undergraduate degree in Business Sustainability from Arizona State University in 2016. Wrobel shares that her interest in environmental issues motivated her to go back for higher education, where she found a passion for natural hazard resilience planning during her graduate program.

In her free time, she enjoys road biking, rock climbing, and exploring new areas making the Fox River Trail and other outdoor assets of the Village of Montgomery a selling point for Wrobel when deciding to move halfway across the country for work. Her day-to-day responsibilities will include reviewing development proposal plans, preparing studies and reports, and providing technical advice and guidance to the community.

"We are excited to add Olenka to our team as our Community Development Department continues to plan for the future of Montgomery strategically,” says Sonya Abt, Director of Community Development. “We see an increase in development interest in our area post-pandemic, and we are putting a lot of time into vetting inquiries and proposals. Our team is committed to bringing the Village the right balance of commercial, industrial, and residential development while maintaining the small-town feel and charm.”
