Yorkville History Book Author to Speak at Chapel on the Green

Former Yorkville Patch editor Jillian Duchnowski will discuss her recently released Yorkville history book Jan. 18 at Chapel on the Green.

Duchnowski, author of Arcadia Publishing’s “Images of America: Yorkville,” will discuss how she compiled the book, along with key figures in Yorkville’s history and interesting images — including some that are not in the book.

The presentation is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Chapel on the Green, 107 W. Center St. in Yorkville.

After the presentation, guests will be able to view displays of Yorkville-area artifacts and memorabilia from area residents.

The book, released Dec. 15 with support, includes images of downtown Yorkville, bridges over Blackberry Creek and the Fox River, former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert as a teacher and coach, Yorkville high school marching band members and cheerleaders from decades ago, and former Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District members.

The book also includes several images from Chapel on the Green, which is celebrating its 160th year in 2015. A portion of the proceeds from the book’s launch events benefit the Chapel on the Green Historical Society NFP, which is dedicated to preserving the historic building.

Overall, the book includes more than 190 photographs from about 30 sources and mentions about 340 people.

The book will be available at the event, and Duchnowski will be available to sign copies.

The book is available during normal business hours at Yorkville City Hall, 800 Game Farm Road. It’s also available online on Amazon and from Arcadia Publishing.
