25-Acre Sports Complex, Ice Rinks Coming To Naperville

CityGate North will offer two regulation-sized ice rinks and seating for 4,500 spectators for concerts, competitions, and other events.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville's CityGate Centre plans to offer residents and visitors more options for entertainment by building a massive sports complex and venue. Calamos Real Estate LLC announced Tuesday that it purchased 25 acres of land near CityGate Centre to add a sports center with ice rinks, expo space, and event seating for 4,500 spectators.

The future site for what will be called CityGate North was purchased from Senior Care Development, which owns Monarch Landing Senior Living. CityGate North will occupy a 245,000 square foot building with two regulation-sized ice rinks that can host hockey, ice-skating, and other sporting events.

Naperville city officials hope the new sports complex will be yet another draw for tourists that can boost the local economy. "From ice and other sporting events to concerts and expos, it will help fill our local hotels and restaurants," Christine Jeffries, president of Naperville Development Partnership said in a news release.

The multi-purpose venue's proximity to I-88 and the accommodations and restaurants at CityGate Centre put it in an ideal location for people coming out of town to enjoy concerts, sporting competitions, expos, and other events.

Calamos Real Estate is hoping to break ground on the project as soon as late spring. They haven't released information about anchor tenants yet, but they say those details will come in the near future.
