Allergy friendly bakery announces grand opening event

Callie’s Cuties Bake Shop – a bake shop specializing in scratch-baked goodies safe for families with nut, milk and egg allergies announces its Grand Opening event in conjunction with the launch of a reward based crowdfunding campaign on the IndieGoGo website.

The Grand Opening event held Sunday, September 21 from 12 – 3 p.m. will feature a petting zoo, pony rides and face painting as well as nut-FREE, egg-FREE and dairy-FREE goodie samples, and items for purchase. The Bake Shop is also hoping to raise $10,000 to fund the purchase of additional equipment, signage and marketing dollars.

“After taking on the retail store front in our location, we exhausted all the funds available to us to further our growth. We are growing quickly and need the ability to keep up with the capacity by purchasing the necessary equipment to support the growth” says Laura Meehan, Owner. “As we grow, we anticipate we’ll need to hire more employees, so we hope this initial fundraiser will soon have a positive impact on the local economy as well.”

Unlike other bakeries in the area, Callie’s Cuties provides a much-needed resource for families whose loved ones have life threatening nut, milk and egg allergies. “Before our shop opened there wasn’t another resource for families in our community within 40 miles,” says Meehan.

Callie’s Cuties Bake Shop was created after the Meehan family experienced a life threatening allergic reaction event when their daughter Callie was 2 years old. The Meehan’s soon found there were no resources available to purchase a simple birthday cake or cupcake for their daughter Callie. “That’s when we decided that we wanted to be that resource,” says Meehan. “Nut FREE Goodies for Nut FREE Cuties.”

The Grand Opening event will be held in front of the bakeshop at 16108 S. Rt. 59, Unit 110, Plainfield, IL on September 21, 2014 – Noon to 3:00 pm. Callie’s Cuties launched their crowdfunding event on August 17, and it will end on the day of the grand opening event.
