Police say the driver showed a gun before fleeing officers in the car. The vehicle was later found in Warrenville, where the driver continued to brandish a gun before leading Warrenville police on a pursuit on I-88 west, a news release said.

Indiana State Police became involved in the chase, and spike strips were used to disable the car near the Keslinger Road exit on I-88 in DeKalb County.

According to ISP, the Warrenville officer and the driver both fired their guns, and the driver "sustained a gunshot wound." ISP says officers took life-saving measures, and the driver was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.

No police were hurt in the shooting, which is under investigation by ISP. Illinois State Police's involvement in the incident is also under investigation.

No officers were hurt in the shooting.
