Nicor Gas employees rolled up their sleeves to support local communities during the company’s 30th Annual Volunteer Week, partnering with nonprofits across the region to make a meaningful impact.
This year’s effort included 30 volunteer events in collaboration with 25 community organizations. In total, 249 employees completed 332 volunteer shifts, contributing 859 hours of service.
The week’s activities focused heavily on addressing food insecurity. Volunteers helped provide food to more than 180 community members at Food for Greater Elgin and served 174 lunches at Hesed House. Teams also packed enough food at the Greater Chicago Food Depository to help feed 8,190 households and assembled more than 23,700 meals with the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
In addition, employees assembled 1,400 hygiene care kits for the Safer Foundation and built two picnic tables for residents at Mercy Housing, helping enhance shared community spaces.
Nicor Gas’ annual Volunteer Week reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to giving back and supporting the neighborhoods it serves.
