Over 90 Percent Of Crimes In Naperville Were Committed Against People: Mid-Year Report

NAPERVILLE, IL — The Naperville Police Department recently released its mid-year frime statistics for 2026. The data shows that 92 percent of the crimes reported were personal crimes, including domestic violence, assault and intimidation and eight instances of sexual assault.

The personal crime statistics in the 2026 mid-year report are as follows:

• Simple assault: 397
• Intimidation: 88
• Aggravated assault: 20
• Rape: 8
• Fondling: 8
• Statutory rape: 5
• Kidnapping/unlawful restraint: 2

Incidences of rape had decreased since 2025, when 14 incidents were reported. Reports of intimidation had increased by nearly 80 percent and reports of simple assault were up by five percent.

Regarding crimes against property, the data showed a 58 percent increase in reports of fraud.

Vehicle thefts had increase by 82 percent. Per the data, just two of the car thefts reported showed there had been forced entry to the vehicle. Of the car burglaries reported, 84 percent involved vehicles that had not been locked.

"Naperville continues to be one of the safest communities in Illinois. While crime patterns continue to evolve, the overall picture from the first six months of 2026 remains encouraging. Property crime remained stable, violent crime continues to represent a relatively small portion of overall reported crime, and many of the trends we are seeing can be reduced through awareness and community partnership," Arres wrote.
