1. Council creates vision statement, narrows options for Naperville electric utility's future (nctv17.org) — Naperville's City Council has adopted a new vision statement to guide long-term decisions about the city-owned electric utility, emphasizing reliability, sustainability, affordability, flexibility, and local control. Council members narrowed future power-supply options, ruled out selling the utility, and directed staff to study joint action agency and market-based approaches ahead of a 2027 rate study and further public discussions.
2. Naperville begins enforcing ban on kratom sales (abc7chicago.com) — Naperville smoke shops are now barred from selling kratom after a city ordinance took effect Thursday, though residents can still legally possess and use it. Mayor Scott Wehrli cited four kratom-related overdoses in the first half of 2026, and the city has already begun fielding complaints about possible illegal sales as enforcement ramps up.
3. WEBIT founder turns succession into employee ownership (channele2e.com) — A longtime Naperville IT firm, WEBIT Services, has shifted to 100% employee ownership as founder Eric Rieger steps away after nearly three decades. Leadership will stay largely the same, and the company says pricing and service for local clients won't change. The move is framed as a way to preserve culture and stability while giving employees a direct stake in the business.
4. Alloya Corporate Launches Pilot of Dollar-Denominated Payment Stablecoin (thecudaily.com) — Naperville-based Alloya Corporate Federal Credit Union has launched a controlled pilot of CUUSD, a dollar-backed payment stablecoin available only to approved credit unions and institutions. The project, run through its Appex CUSO subsidiary on the Ethereum blockchain, will test how digital tokens can support liquidity and payments. Local residents may not use CUUSD directly, but it reflects cutting-edge fintech work happening in Naperville.
