Edward Hospital is now offering open Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for patients in the west and southwest suburbs. The Hitachi Oasis High-Field Open MRI system, located at the Edward Healthcare Center, 130 N. Weber Rd. in Bolingbrook, has one of the largest and widest openings available, which means a more comfortable exam experience for patients, especially those with claustrophobia.
The Open MRI system’s design provides a 270-degree unobstructed view, which minimizes patient anxiety and allows a family member or friend nearby for further reassurance. The system has a table that can support up to 660 pounds and offers a dramatic reduction in noise. Patients are invited to bring their own music to listen to during an exam.
In addition, the Oasis Open MRI, one of the most advanced diagnostic imaging systems currently available in the healthcare industry, uses powerful technology and an ultra-fast workstation to make patient exams as quick and smooth as possible.

“We want patients to receive care that is comforting, safe and results in the best outcome,” says Allan Haggar, MD, diagnostic radiologist with Naperville Radiologists and MRI section head for Edward Hospital. “This new system meets those requirements, and because it has a magnet that’s twice as strong as the previous system, the images are very high quality and similar to those we get from traditional closed scanners.”

The new Open MRI is part of $7.8 million renovation and expansion of the Edward Healthcare Center in Bolingbrook that includes the installation of new imaging equipment, a 4,600-square foot addition to accommodate additional Edward Medical Group physicians and an upgrade of facilities for Immediate Care, Women’s Center for Health (OB/GYN services) and Midwest Heart Specialists (cardiac diagnostics).
