Bill Kottmann, Edward Hospital Pres. & CEO, announces retirement

Kottmann, a Naperville resident, served in senior executive roles for Edward Hospital and Edward-Elmhurst Health for 28 years.

Edward Hospital President & CEO Bill Kottmann has announced his retirement, effective Sept. 30. Joe Dant, Executive Vice President, Physician & Ambulatory Network, Edward-Elmhurst Health, will take over as Edward’s President & CEO on Oct. 1.

Kottmann, a Naperville resident, served in senior executive roles for Edward Hospital and Edward-Elmhurst Health for 28 years. Prior to becoming Edward’s President & CEO in 2016, Kottmann was System Vice President, Physician & Ambulatory Network Development and President of Edward-Elmhurst’s joint venture division. He joined Edward in 1991 as Vice President of Human Resources and became Vice President of Operations in 1993. In 2005, he was named President of Edward’s joint venture division, a role that expanded to a system level in 2013, when Edward Hospital and Elmhurst Hospital merged to become Edward-Elmhurst Health.

“It’s been an honor and privilege to have been involved in the growth and success of Edward Hospital which has evolved into one of the premier healthcare providers in the Chicago area and country over the past few decades. Thanks to everyone who has joined me on this wonderful ride,” says Kottmann. “I’ve decided it’s time to relax, recharge and take on new challenges. I’m also eagerly looking forward to spending more time with family and friends.”

“Bill is largely responsible for the significant growth of our physician and ambulatory network. He structured many joint ventures on behalf of the organization, served on numerous internal and external boards, and contributed significantly to the development and growth of many of our key service lines,” says Mary Lou Mastro, System CEO, Edward-Elmhurst Health. “Bill is a trusted and accomplished leader recognized for his vision, business acumen, collaborative approach and accessibility. I am proud to call him my friend and I am certainly happy for him as he embarks on a new life with his family in retirement.”

Prior to joining Edward-Elmhurst Health in 2017, Dant was the System Vice President, Strategic Planning & Business Development for Northwestern Memorial Healthcare and the System Vice President, Operations at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. From 2003-2015, Dant served in a variety of roles at Kish Health System in DeKalb, including Vice President, Business Development and President, Health Progress, Inc. Previously Dant worked at Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin and served as a U.S. Navy Officer from 1987-1991. He has a Bachelor’s Degree from Notre Dame and an MBA from Benedictine University.

Sanjeeb Khatua, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Edward Hospital and Chief Physician Executive, Edward-Elmhurst Health, will become Executive Vice President for the Edward-Elmhurst Health Physician & Ambulatory Network, effective Oct. 1. Dr. Khatua will remain in his role as Chief Physician Executive for the system.

Dr. Khatua is a board certified family medicine physician and practiced with Edward Medical Group. In 2016, Dr. Khatua was promoted to Vice President, Physician Network & Population Health, Edward-Elmhurst Health and became Vice President/Chief Medical Officer at Edward Hospital in 2017. Dr. Khatua earned his Master’s degree in Public Health from Loma Linda University, his MBA in Healthcare Management from Loyola University Chicago and his medical degree from the Medical University of Silesia. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians and member of the American Association for Physician Leadership.
