Blackhawks Fan Cut By Falling Glass Won't Give Up Her Seat

Alexis Bovard stays in the game after protective glass falls onto her head.

Alexis Bovard went to her first Chicago Blackhawks game Friday night — she had great seats, up close to the ice — and left the United Center with a memento stitched into her forehead.

“If I even remember correctly, I was watching the game and you know the big hits come to the glass and the next thing I know the glass is on my head and blood is everywhere and people are all around me and I make it up the stairs and hear all this applause ... which was nice to hear,” Bovard told Sportsnet’s Gene Principe during the game. “I’ll be making my way to get some stitches shortly. I was bummed it happened so early.”

In the first period, Benoit Pouliot of the Edmonton Oilers laid a big hit on Niklas Hjalmarsson and the protective glass surrounding the ice dislodged, falling onto Bovard’s head. The 2008 Neuqua Valley High School graduate is one tough Blackhawks fan, however. She stayed and watched the game with a bandage wrapping her head. United Center staff tended to her wound.

“It’s quite a first game. First NHL game. First Blackhawks game,” she told Sportsnet.
