Carol Stream Man Sentenced To 55 Years For Sexual Assault Of A Minor Who Suffers From Spina Bifida

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced that a former Carol Stream man has been sentenced to fifty-five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the sexual assault of a minor female who suffers from spina bifida.

On January 23, 2020, following a bench trial, Judge Alex McGimpsey found Adan Rodriguez-Ocampo, 55 (d.o.b. 7/30/1965) guilty of four counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault, (Class X Felony), four counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault (Class X Felony) and one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse (Class 2 Felony).

McGimpsey handed down the sentence yesterday afternoon. Rodriguez-Ocampo’s sentence stems from charges that from May, 2007 through March 2015, Rodriguez-Ocampo sexually assaulted his female victim, who was under the age of thirteen when the abuse began and suffers from spina bifida, on multiple occasions at her home and other locations.

Rodriguez-Ocampo is a relative of the girl and had lived in the same house with the victim and her family when the abuse began. The assaults were discovered by the victim’s mother who discovered sexually explicit text messages and photographs between Rodriguez-Ocampo and his victim on the victim’s cellular phone. The victim’s mother immediately contacted the Carol Stream Police Department who in turn contacted the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.

An investigation conducted by the DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center resulted in charges against Rodriguez-Ocampo. On March 5, 2015, Rodriguez-Ocampo appeared in Bond Court where bond was set at $1 million with 10% to apply. He has been in custody since that time.

“Mr. Rodriguez-Ocampo’s abhorrent behavior has certainly earned him each and every year of his fifty-five-year sentence,” Berlin said. “The repeated sexual assault of a young girl with special needs is nearly incomprehensible and thankfully Mr. Rodriguez-Ocampo will now, in all likelihood, spend the rest of his life behind bars where he will be unable to sexually prey upon anyone. I would like to thank the DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center, particularly Investigators Robert Holguin, Carmen Easton and Bruce Malkin as well as Victim Advocates Stephanie Mogensen and Robert Gonzalez for their work on this case and for their ongoing commitment to the children of DuPage County. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Bethany Jackson and Jennifer Lindt for their work in ensuring that Mr. Rodriguez-Ocampo is held responsible for his actions.”

Rodriguez-Ocampo will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
