Convicted Felon Accused Of Having Gun During Naperville Traffic Stop

NAPERVILLE, IL — A Bellwood man was arrested Wednesday after Naperville police say he was found with a a loaded gun in his car as a convicted felon. John Templeton, 47, with armed habitual criminal in connection with the incident.

A police officer stopped Templeton just before 6:45 p.m. after noticing the car's license plates were expired, a news release said. Police reported that they found a loaded Glock 48 9mm handgun in Templeton's car during the traffic stop and that there was one round in chamber of the gun.

Templeton had previously been convicted on two felony counts of manufacturing and delivering a controlled substance.

“The law is very clear on this, as a convicted felon, Mr. Templeton is forbidden from possessing a gun,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert said in a news release.

Berlin added, “I thank the Naperville Police Department for their heads-up work not only on this case, which resulted in removing an illegal weapon from the streets, but also for their continued efforts in public safety."

Templeton is set to appear in court again on July 27.
