Cops Patrol For Drunk, High Drivers Over Winter Holidays In Naperville

NAPERVILLE, IL — As New Year's Eve approaches, Naperville police are planning to increase patrols to be on the lookout for drivers who are drunk or high while they are behind the wheel.

“We want everyone in our community to enjoy the holidays without worrying about the dangers of impaired drivers," Naperville Police Sgt. Derek Zook said in a news release about the initiative.

Zook added, "During the campaign, you can expect to see extra safety patrols. We will show zero tolerance for alcohol- and drug-impaired driving to help ensure everyone makes it to and from their holiday festivities safely."

Police in Naperville are recommending the following tips for safe travel on the roads this holiday season:

• Find a sober driver
• Take public transportation
• Use a ride-hailing service
• Take keys from friends who are in danger of driving impaired
• Call 911 to report impaired drivers on the road
• Buckle your safety belt

The city's holiday traffic safety campaign is part of the Illinois Department of Transportation's ongoing "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns. The programs are funded in part by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
