Deer Gives Birth After Being Hit By Car In Naperville

The doe delivered a healthy baby fawn after being fatally struck by a car.

NAPERVILLE, IL --- What could have been a sad story wound up with a very happy ending when a deer who had been fatally hit by a car gave birth to a fawn in Naperville. The birth took place on Memorial Day, shortly after the mama deer died as a result of the collision, according to a Facebook post from Naperville Police Department.

Officer Mike Minuth was at the scene responding to the accident when the deer gave birth to the fawn "shortly after she died." The fawn had broken its leg in the womb during the accident, but Minuth was careful to wrap it in a towel and keep it safe in his police car until Animal Control came.

Animal Control took the deer to Oaken Acres Wildlife Center in Sycamore. As of Wednesday, Naperville Police had just gotten an update that the fawn was recovering and had stood up despite its cast and broken leg.
