District 203 Volunteer Earns Special 'Kindness Matters' Award

Cathy Mehl was recently honored with a Make Kindness Count Award for her work with the district's youth services department.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A long-time volunteer with youth services at Community Unit School District 203 has received a "Make Kindness Count" award from the Collaborative Youth Group of Illinois and KidsMatter.

Cathy Mehl, works with the district's HURRAH volunteer team, which helps with student and educator support services. The group connects students with volunteer opportunities that are tailored to their interest and fit their schedule.

Mehl, who has worked with HURRAH for three years, also helps with classroom activities and other support for teachers.

In a statement, Mehl said, "I enjoy it! I feel like I am making a difference."

The annual "Make Kindness Count" award celebrates individuals, students and groups whose daily acts of kindess help support the greater community.
