Eccarius To Become New District 89 Superintendent

Doug Eccarius will leave his role as deputy superintendent of District 204 to take the helm at Community Consolidated School District 89.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Doug Eccarius will be leaving his role as Indian Prairie School District 204 Deputy Superintendent to become the next superintendent of Community Consolidated School District 89.

Eccarius, who was chosen unanimously at the April 17 District 89 board meeting, will begin a three-year contract July 1. The appointment comes after current District 89 Superintendent Emily Tammaru accepted a position as superintendent of Northbrook/Glenview School District 30.

Prior to being appointed as District 204's deputy superintendent in 2020, Eccarius worked as a middle school teacher and principal, an elementary school principal and an assistant superintendent in the district.

"I’m really excited and honored to be selected as superintendent of District 89," Eccarius said in a statement.

He added, "I can’t wait to get to know all of the students, staff, and families in the district. I look forward to being part of the team."

Eccarius has a bachelor's degree in middle school education from Illinois State University and a masters degree in educational leadership from North Central College.

During his time at District 204, Eccarius earned the Most Influential Educator award five times. In addition to coaching wrestling, track and football, Eccarius served on the district's advisory committee.

About his shift to District 89, Eccarius said,

"I was really excited about the size of District 89 because it gives me the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students, staff, parents, and board members. Building relationships is one of my favorite parts of working in education."
