In fact, obesity is the fastest growing health problem in America. Weight negatively affects nearly two-thirds of Americans and is the second leading cause of preventable death. The World Health Organization describes obesity as an “escalating epidemic” and “one of the greatest neglected health problems of our time.”

The facts are alarming indeed. Obesity costs Americans more than $47 billion per year in related healthcare spending. Reports published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Journal of the American Medical Association indicate:

• two out of five baby boomers aged 50-65 are obese,
• 32 percent of individuals over the age of 20 are obese,
• 66 percent of individuals in the USA are overweight (defined as 30 or more pounds over a healthy body weight), and
• solutions must be implemented for an effective and long-term program to lose weight and maintain a healthy body weight.

Medi-Weightloss Clinics offer a solution. The program is a three-phase physician-supervised program for weight loss. It is not a liquid diet, and no food is provided. Patients eat real food purchased in the grocery store. The program was designed by experts in medicine and public health, nutrition, fitness, motivation, and education.

“I am very excited to be losing at this rate,” said Andy, a patient at the Hinsdale Medi-Weightloss Clinic. “I feel great. My waist measurement has gone from 41 to 35 in just six weeks. I’ve moved the notch on my belt two times! Nothing breeds success like success; I am completely motivated.”

Phase One is acute weight loss which begins with a 90-minute complete medical examination with a physician including blood panel and EKG along with the details of an individualized diet based on goals, current condition, and medical history. Throughout this phase, the patient makes weekly visits. Phase Two is short-term maintenance that begins as a patient approaches goal weight. Phase Three is wellness with monthly consultations and continued analysis of the metabolism.

“Some people come in so discouraged and defeated having tried so many unsuccessful diets,” Pienias said. “It is extremely rewarding to see them reclaim pride, appearance, and confidence during their weight loss journey.”

No wonder Pienias enjoys the patients’ success; the former football coach is all about motivation. His career veered into the financial industry, and he quickly rose to the CEO level. In all endeavors, Pienias’ strong personal mission was – and remains – to make a difference in people’s lives.

“Our program gives the advice, direction and accountability one needs to reach goal weight and transition to a healthier lifestyle,” Pienias said. “Our patients lose up to 5-10 pounds the first week and up to 20 pounds the first month.”

Again, the public is invited to attend the free presentation at either time or just drop in to enjoy the ambiance of the open house and sample some of the mouth-watering morsels from their patients' favorite recipes.
