Family Suing Edward Hospital, Physicians After They Allegedly Misdiagnosed Son
More than $3 million in damages is sought by the family.

A family is seeking more than $3 million in damages after doctors allegedly overlooked critical brain damage during their son’s ER visit, according to a report from the Cook County Record.
Mike and Dana Patterson filed a complaint June 26 in Cook County Circuit Court against Edward Hospital, physicians Michael Mitchell and Paul Backas, Naperville Radiologists SC, Presence Hospitals, Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, Dr. Sasan Payvar and Joliet Radiological Service Corp.
Plaintiff Mason Patterson went to the Edward Hospital ER with a head injury May 11, 2010. Patterson allegedly complained of a headache and dizziness. Although he had a CT scan, the brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM) was not caught.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to diagnose the AVM or the vascular abnormality, notify the emergency room about the abnormality, investigate the abnormality, notify the patient and his parents about it, and ensure the plaintiff was quickly referred to a neurosurgeon.
As a result, the lawsuit states, the plaintiff’s AVM went undiagnosed and untreated until it ruptured on Nov. 4, 2013, causing the plaintiff to suffer permanent brain injuries and disability.
